1995 Porsche 911 993 Carrera

The Porsche 911 993 is considered by most as the last of the classic Porsches for many reasons including the air-cooled engine, it’s classic body style and traditional interior. For this review, I used my grandmother’s 1995 911 993 Carrera that was purchased in 2005 with around 10,000 miles on it for about $50,000. Today I can find an example of this model year online with approximately 50,000 miles on it for just under $60,000 which is very good for a car that old with that many miles on it. Most of these cars have upheld their value quite well. The vehicle I reviewed has around 40,000 miles on it today which is a lot for a Porsche of this kind.

This Porsche has a reasonably basic interior that has the same gizmos and gadgets as the previous third generation models. Although that may be true, the car is not meant to be plush and luxurious like other German cars. This car was engineered for speed and touring, not luxury. It does have upholstered leather seats and dashboard. There is quality felt lining on the roof and everywhere else that there is not leather. The floor mats are soft-touch carpet and have Porsche labels on them. The front seats are able to be moved with a button for up and down motions, but not for forwards, backward, or reclining. Those last three are operated manually with a bar in the front of the seat for forward and backward, and a lever on the shoulder of the chair for reclining so someone can get in the back seat.
The car is technically a two plus two sports car that's not meant to have anyone over five feet tall in the rear seats. They are mostly used for storage and are able to be folded down to turn into two shelves (one per seat). Behind the two chairs, two speakers are visible from the rear windshield.

The dashboard as I said before is very basic. Starting in the center console, there is a cassette holder, the shift knob, and five switches. They include the rear spoiler controls which I will explain later, the hazard lights, a cancel button for the hazards, a door locking button, and the sunroof controls. The cancel button is a little quirky as it is just an exclamation point for the symbol. Above the switches, there are the radio and the air conditioning controls alongside each other. Above those, there are a headlight switch, a cigarette lighter, a rear window defroster and a vent for the A/C.

Behind the steering wheel, there is the windshield wiper switch, the headlights switch, and the cruise control switch which Porsche calls Tempostat. The gauge cluster is very basic. The first gauge circle includes oil level, gas level, and a windshield wiper fluid warning light along with a low fuel warning light. After that, there is the large instrument cluster. The next is the tachometer which also consists of the blinker lights and headlight indicators. The others are (from left to right) the speedometer, which has an analog odometer and trip analog odometer, and the clock which is surrounded by warning light indicators. To the left of the steering wheel is the key slot, which is usually on the right, a light knob, a vent, and the gas cap button. The dashboard is very convenient.

The front trunk storage is capable of holding one piece of luggage and a few other loose things. Under the felt covering there is a battery with a trickle charger wire attached for when the car is not in use, the brake fluid, and window washer fluid. There is also a blow up spare tire.

The 993 is a stunning and elegant car that has more curviness than the previous model, but not too much as is the case with the 996 which took a far leap in styling from the 993 in my opinion. The front has the signature circular headlights of the classic Porsche 911, and the blinkers are kept on the corner of the bumper of the car. The rear is widebodied which gives the vehicle better cornering and handling and looks very sharp. The 16" wheels are the same color as the car. The taillight is one continuous strip of red on the back which makes the look very exclusive. There is also a wing that pops up once the car gets up to speed and is able to be manually engaged from the cockpit. As it curves from the tail to the side, it follows the shape of the car and completes the look of it.

This 911, although a base model, is still a Porsche and sure drives like one. This car is a 6-speed manual with 270 horsepower and 243 ft. Torque. The acceleration 0-60 mph is 5.4 seconds and the quarter mile for this car is 13.9 seconds. That's pretty fast for a base model Porsche, and it will sure throw anyone back in their seats. The clutch is quite heavy, but anyone can quickly get used to it if they drive it for long enough.

This beautiful sports car is fun to drive for long periods of time and will give anyone who rides in it a blast. It is easily maneuverable and very fast. Anyone who likes Porsche's will love this car.
